About Me

My name is Jala (Jay) Hassanien and I am a 23-year-old Registered Nurse. I am currently a Masters student at Athabasca University and I work in a cardiac medicine unit in Kingston, where I care for patients with a range of acute and chronic cardiovascular conditions. I enjoy the fast-paced nature of cardiac care and find it especially rewarding to see patients improve and regain stability throughout their hospital stay.

My professional identity is shaped by a balance between technical skill and human connection. While strong clinical competence is essential in my role, I have come to recognize that meaningful patient interactions are equally important in achieving positive outcomes. I value cultural sensitivity and inclusive care, an approach shaped by growing up in Toronto, one of the most culturally diverse cities in the world. This perspective continues to influence how I communicate and connect with patients, encouraging me to remain attentive and adaptable to individual perspectives and needs.

Alongside my clinical role, I have developed a strong interest in teaching and mentorship. My background as a swim instructor and lifeguard, combined with experiences supporting peers and students in both clinical and community settings, has strengthened my ability to meet learners at their level and create supportive learning environments. I am particularly interested in translating clinical knowledge into practical application, whether in patient education or future teaching roles, and aim to make complex information both clear and usable in real-world contexts.
